Protecting your Name.com account
Last Updated: December 12, 2023
Everyone wants to stay safe online and Name.com makes that easy to do. The best way to secure your account and domain names is to keep your username and password a secret.
Don't share your login information
If you are working with a web designer or programmer, they don't need to access your Name.com account to work on your website or hosting account. You never want to give anyone access to your Name.com account, but you can give them access to your hosting account by providing them your hosting username and password.
If Name.com is your hosting provider, you can get your cPanel username and set the password from within your Name.com account. Once you have your hosting username and password, they can be given to your web designer. If they go to http://yourdomain.com/cpanel and put in your hosting username and password, they can build the site for you.
If your website builder created the site elsewhere, you will need to point the site to your hosting. The good news is that's it's easy to do, so you can do it yourself and keep your site safe. They will give you either nameservers or DNS records to add to the domain name so it will load your amazing new site. If you have any trouble, you can always contact support and we will be happy to assist you.
Use a unique password
We also recommend not using your Name.com username and password information for other logins. This can include forums, bank accounts, and even email accounts. It is important to keep your Name.com username and password unique.
Also make sure that no one but yourself has access to the administrative or registrant email address on your Name.com account. If someone has access to your email address, it's possible they could steal your login information and access your Name.com account without your knowledge. If you're worried that your email address has been compromised, please contact Name.com support immediately, as well as your email provider.
Take other security measures
There are other steps you can take to ensure that your Name.com account stays secure. First, we recommend making using Two-Step Verification. It will add another layer of protection to your account and prevent issues of this kind in the future.
You can also restrict your Name.com account so it can only be accessed by certain IP addresses. This restriction should only be added if you have a static IP address because otherwise you will lock yourself out of your own account.
