Validate your CSR
Enter your Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and we'll check it for you.
Since you are not using Name.com hosting, you’ll need to generate a CSR code through your hosting provider , then copy and paste it into this field (including the ---BEGIN CERTIFICATE--- and ---END CERTIFICATE--- text). Please contact your hosting provider for specific instructions on generating your CSR code.
General Tips for SSLs
- An SSL is a Secure Socket Layer. It is added to your hosting to keep information shared between your users and your website secure. The process for generating an SSL is to use your hosting product to generate a CSR or Certificate Signing Request. Then set up your SSL with your CSR (this page helps you make sure your CSR is correct). Once your SSL is setup, you'll be provided with a CRT or Certificate that you can install on your hosting product.
- You can only use one SSL at a time on a domain or subdomain. If you already have an SSL installed you will need to uninstall it to add the new one.
- Wildcard SSLs are the only SSL type that will cover multiple subdomains (i.e., shop.mydomain.com and blog.mydomain.com) including the bare domain (www.mydomain.com).
- SSLs that require higher levels of validation will take longer to set up and issue and provide additional security for your users.
- Private keys are generated from your hosting environment. If you lose your private key, you'll need to reissue your SSL.
Tips for troubleshooting CSRs
- Do not use a passphrase
- Make sure your CSR matches the domain you've entered. For the main or bare domain, use the subdomain www.yourdomain.com rather than the bare domain, yourdomain.com. For all other subdomains, make sure you include the subdomain in your CSR setup.
- For wildcard SSLs, be sure to format your domain as .mydomain.com the covers all subdomains.
- Try using the Key size for 2048 for Encryption Everywhere SSLs. For all others you can use 2048 or 4096 for your key size.
- Be sure to fill out all sections of the CSR. You must include the city, state, and Country. Do not abbreviate the state or province but you can use the abbreviation for the country.
- We can only issue a CSR with full headers and footers. For example, your header should say -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST---- (if your header does not include the word request, that is not a CSR, it is the certificate).
