Earlier this week, Shia LaBeouf had the online world in a flurry once more with his latest stunt: Live streaming himself riding an elevator at Oxford College—for 24 hours straight.
This is not the first of Shia LeBouf’s live stream spectacles. Earlier this year, he took part in #ALLMYMOVIES, in which he spent three days straight watching every movie he’d ever had a role in for 24 hours a day while a camera live streamed his reaction to millions of online viewers.
While these live streaming extravaganzas may be in a league of their own, it’s hard to deny that live streaming is gaining momentum online. Live streaming services like Periscope, Twitch, Ustream, and more are bringing in thousands of avid live streamers and millions of viewers who are interested in these broadcasts.
But even though Shia LeBouf is famous enough that a number of outlets will pick up the story of whatever live stream he’s doing next, is that really enough? Wouldn’t it be better for his fans to have one single link they could easily access any time he’s broadcasting?
That’s where a .LIVE domain comes in. During his three day movie stint, the domain allmymovies.live would have been an amazing way to promote the event while staying consistent with his hashtag. It’s much more memorable than newhive.com/allmymovies, which was the home base for the stream. As for his 24-hour long elevator ride? Using the URL elevate.live would have been a great solution.
Or, rather than creating a new URL every time he decides it’s time to embark on a new live streaming adventure, he could create a single .LIVE domain that would forward to whatever channel he was using for his broadcast.
Football legend Karl Mecklenburg has karl.live. Periscope founder Ryan Bell is using ryan.live. So if Shia LeBouf used shia.live? Magic.
And if Shia decides it’s time for another live stream performance any time soon? Well we’ve got shia.live ready and waiting for him.
