More evidence says New Domains can help your SEO, not hinder it

Domain registry Radix recently released a case study that shared the stories of New Domain owners who saw favorable SEO results after adopting or switching to an nTLD. From digital marketing agency Louder.online to winning WIX SEO Hero project seo-hero.tech, businesses and individuals from all walks of life are using New Domains to shoot to the top of Google search rankings.

Why do New TLDs seem to rank so well?

To get more insight into why New TLD seem to do quite well ranking organically, Radix pulled from the expertise of SEO expert Bill Hartzer. Hartzer said URLs that use New Domains have the following advantage: brand new domain names do not have a bad history—or any history at all, as a matter of fact. Therefore, there is nothing holding a URL using a New Domain back from ranking well organically.

New Domains are also unique in the sense that they can offer context and often provide exact match results for a searched query via the integration of relevant keywords. For example, Emirates.store, which offers merchandise to the Emirates superfans out there, receives 43.92% of its traffic organically, presumably from those who search for that exact phrase in Google. And while Emirates is already a well-known brand, there are plenty of examples of startups or little-known businesses finding success using New Domains. Such is the case with seo-hero.tech, which owner Walid Gabteni used to win last year’s WIX SEO Hero challenge.

Can an existing business or website switch to a New Domain?

One common misconception is that older domains are likely to rank better than new ones. But it’s not the age of the domain that matters, but the age, backlinks, and history of the website it is associated with. So while it’s great to have a website that is several years old, the age of the domain associated with it doesn’t really matter.

That’s part of what makes New Domains so exciting—you have the opportunity to register a domain that uses exact match words that relate to your website or company without having to sacrifice SEO value in the process.
